Popular Piano Brands

If you are thinking about purchasing a piano, then you want to be sure that the one you get is a good quality one. Probably the best way to do this is to buy from a well-known brand that has been around for a long time and has, therefore, garnered a good reputation. There are few good brands of piano to choose from; below we list some of these for you.

Steinway Pianos - are probably the most popular and well-known of all the brands of piano. Having a Steinway is akin to owning a Ferrari - everybody aspires to get one eventually. Henry Steinway established his piano business way back in the 1850's, although he was originally a cabinet maker. Many great musicians have used a Steinway at one time or another, including Wagner, Gershwin and Liszt.

Schimmel Pianos - is a very reputable German brand found throughout the world. Those people that couldn't afford a Steinway would probably opt for a Schimmel. The company was established in 1885 by the Schimmel family and is still one of the very few brands of piano that are still manufactured by the same family.

Baldwin Pianos - were established in the latter stages of the nineteenth century and to this day still produce some of the best pianos available on the market. When Dwight Baldwin made his first piano, it was an upright, although the company expanded into grand pianos at a later stage.

Mason and Hamlin Pianos - are probably still among the most popular brand of piano ever sold - despite going bankrupt in 1995! Fortunately the brand made a comeback and still produced the quality pianos the brand was famous for before bankruptcy. They were established in 1854, although the original founding family is no longer involved with the instrument.

Kawai Pianos - hail from Japan, and although many people still associate them with electronic keyboards, Kawai do produce good quality pianos at decent prices. Kawai's are ideal for beginners or first time piano buyers because although well-known and respected, they are not as popular as some of the other brands, meaning their prices are lower than most of their competitors.

Picking a piano for yourself is always going to be a vital choice and choosing the right one has to be carried out with a great deal of care. Nevertheless, going for one of the reputable brands will mean you should be more than happy with the investment you made. All of the above companies have been in existence for over 150 years, meaning that they not only have the experience necessary to produce a great musical instrument, but they also have the respect that companies of this age command throughout the world.
