Pianos
If you have been learning to play the piano, or have just been enjoying listening to one over the years, you may be thinking about buying a piano for use at home. A piano would be a fantastic addition to anyone's home, giving many, many years of pleasure, in due no small part to the fact that it is probably one of, if not the most, durable musical instruments that has ever been created; durable because it is constructed from a range of hardwoods and forged steel. Below we have listed some pointers to help you purchase the ideal first piano.
First of all you will have to take the size of the instrument into consideration. Although opulent thoughts of grand pianos can call to mind philharmonic orchestras and symphonies, something of that size and weight will probably not be accommodated by your house. Think about where the piano is going to be located in your house; will you be allocating a specific music room or will you place it in another room such as the living room?
Next, you will have to think about your budgetary situation as pianos can cost anything from £500 to £10,000. Those who play regularly, whether it's for pleasure or business, will want to purchase the best model they possibly can. If the piano is to be used only occasionally or as just a family piano, then you could consider purchasing a slightly cheaper version.
As we mentioned above, pianos are durable - so durable in fact that more often than not they end up outliving their owners, finishing up in an antique shop or musical equipment store. Therefore, depending on your personal preferences, one of the older antique models may actually prove to be more suitable for you. You would have to remember though, that if you did purchase an antique piano, then should you ever require parts for it, for whatever reason, these could prove to be extremely difficult to come by. Whereas new pianos will not only have all the latest sound gizmos on them but will have an abundant supply of spare parts, they will not be able to produce that deep resonating sound effect grand pianos are loved for.
Even though you may have been dreaming of that grand piano or a baby grand at least, you may have to face reality and admit you do not have the room to house it - in which case an upright piano may be the ideal compromise for you. Failing that, you could even go for a more portable version as in keyboards.
There are that many styles and types of pianos available today that you may be better off asking for a catalogue from your local musical equipment shop so you can see for yourself what is available. Whatever one you do decide to go for though, rest assured that it will be the focal point of the room it is placed in, giving you many years of beautiful music.
